Good evening. Due to icy conditions on roads and at schools, West Hartford Public Schools and offices will open with a 2 hour delay tomorrow, Tuesday January 22nd.
High school midterm exams are not impacted and will begin as scheduled at 9:30am.
Please be careful tomorrow and use extra caution on roads and sidewalks.
We have had a busy start to the new school year! By now, many of you have probably met with your new assigned school counselor. If not, make sure to be on the lookout for calendar invites sent to your school email account.
Some of you still may be in the process of finalizing your college lists. It is not too late to add schools to your list. If you are feeling stuck there is an excellent college fair coming up on October 18th at Conard. For those of you who are unsure of where to apply this is your opportunity to "shop" for the right school for you. Counselors are here to support you with that process too!
Be on the lookout for admissions representative visits being held in the Career Center. Don't miss out on a chance to make a personal connection with the representatives from your prospective schools. If you feel like you already missed a college visit at Hall, don't worry! You should contact the admissions office to schedule a tour, interview, or just to ask your questions. Remember: Demonstrated interest is also a factor in college admission.
Keep plugging away on your student resume and student and parent brag sheets. These are required if you are seeking a counselor letter of recommendation.
Here are the most important dates to keep in mind this fall:
Transcript requests are required to be submitted no later than 3 weeks prior to the application deadline (not including holidays). If your deadline is November 15th you need to submit your request by October 20th.
Don't forget to register for College Goal Sunday! We will be offering help with filling out the FAFSA on October 22nd. While walk ins are welcome, we always prefer that you register ahead of time so you can get the information on what to bring that day. Students can register at:: http://www.
Enjoy the rest of the fall season and remember to seek our assistance as needed.
Attention all Juniors! Conard High School will be hosting a college fair on October 18th from 6:30- 8:30 PM. There will be representation from over 150 colleges and you are encouraged to check the website closer to the fair for a complete listing of attendees. This is a great opportunity to gather information and meet with college admission representatives.
Sophomores recently took the PSAT on Wednesday, October 11th. The PSAT plays an important role in helping students with future SAT preparation and gaining a better understanding of their current literacy and mathematical skills. We continue to convey to students that the best test preparation comes from doing their best in their classes and seeing teachers for extra help as needed. We will help students review their test results sometime in mid-December when score reports are released.
With first quarter progress reports recently released, now is a good time to remind students of the academic resources available to assist them in doing their best. The Writing Center and Warrior Math Center are two excellent resources that are now up and running - encourage your child to check them out!
Please continue to refer to the IMPORTANT DATES FOR SOPHOMORE YEAR timeline handed out at Sophomore Parent night. You may want to circle November 8 for the "How to Fund a College Education" program being held at Conard High School. This is more about planning for paying as opposed to just applying for financial aid.
Hi Class of 2021!
We hope that you had a smooth transition from middle school and that you have enjoyed your first month as a high school student.
Freshman Seminar is in full swing, and we hope that you are allowing for it to be a meaningful time in your week. The topics and discussions are aimed to help you acclimate to the high school. Please let us know what questions you have as you settle in.
There is still time to get involved! We encourage all of you to get involved in Hall High School's extracurricular activities. This is a great opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet some new friends, build teamwork and leadership skills, and, most importantly, to have fun! Remember to visit our athletics and clubs and activities pages for important dates and more information.
Mrs. Alix and Mr. Suchocki have started to meet with freshman individually, and we will be continuing to do this through the next few months. Please remember to check your West Hartford Gmail account for email reminders about these meetings. We look forward to meeting with you and want to learn about your strengths, interests, and what we can do to assist you through your freshman year.
On Wednesday, October 11, 2016, PSATs (practice SAT standardized tests) were given at our school for the freshman, sophomore, and junior students. These scores are not reported anywhere other than to you and your school counselor. This is a great way to start to learn about the SATWe will meet with you in groups after we receive the scores (mid-December) to discuss the scores and what they mean. Please see your counselor, either Mrs. Alix or Mr. Suchocki, if you have any questions about the PSATs.
